I'm struggling with my wife's old iBook (running OS 10.1 and IE 5.1 for MAC) with Airport card. After working perfectly for months, the browser now won't access web pages, just returns the http://errors.orange.co.uk page.
E-mail still works fine, and it's also found Apple's own page for a software update. What's happened, and how can I fix it?
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I wasn't sure where to key in the DNS numbers you gave, so I tried it in Explorer -> preferences -> network proxies, secure proxy settings, but that didn't help. Where else would I put those DNS in?
Sorry, I should have said. I'm using a Livebox 4798 which at the moment is wired to a Dell desktop PC (since I'm having trouble with the Speedtouch 121g - see another topic at
The Apple iBook is connected to the Livebox by its Airport card, and the wireless link works OK for e-mail and to the Orange website but not the www in general.

PS as another irritation, I generally use Firefox, but this forum only seems to work in Internet Explorer - why is that?
Sorry I can't help you with the livebox. I am sure Elhana (or some other kind soul) will be able to help soon.
It's just dawned on me it may be an MTU setting problem - although I wouldn't have a clue if an Apple version is available
I've never had a problem with firefox on this site, although the admin did say he'd tweaked something to overcome problems firefox users were experiencing
The web access thing is bizarre, the Orange broadband from the Apple is blocking specific sites which are our own domains at www.pardoes.com and www.pardoe.net. Everything else I've tried works OK. I've run a DNS check and the sites seem OK (and I can view them from the PC also wirelessly connected to the same Livebox). Any ideas?
Re Firefox (1.0.7) - it doesn't show me the login window! I can see it in the source code and it's there in IE (6.0 for Windows) so I have to use IE to log into the forum.
Many thanks,
SteveP
PS I got the 121g/Livebox working OK, thanks, it 'just' needed a full uninstall / reboot / reinstall.
If I remember correctly for a MAC, to set DNS you go into the apple menu > system preferences > network, select the adapter you're using and then one of the tabs should have mention of DNS settings.
Not sure how much it will help though as both systems will use the same DNS by default so that shouldn't be the cause.
