We're making some changes that could mean you can speed up your broadband service.
The changes should be completed on 12/09/2007 at some point between 8am and 6pm. It'll only take about half an hour, but during that time you won't be able to get online.
* Your call will cost up to 7p/min from a BT line. Charges from other networks may vary and calls might be recorded.

Any recieved a message similar to this? I am just a bit unsure as to what it is talking about as I already recieve the highest speed I can get on my package? (the 2mb one)
Sounds like they're enabling LLU at your exchange. Basically means they install their own equipment to handle the connections, so they have 1 less thing to rent from BT (thus cheaper in the long run, for them). For some ISPs this means cheaper for the end user (AOL), or better connections, or access to the service in the first place (Be*).
In Orange's case, it pretty much means a nightmare for you. Theres a lot of LLU horror stories and it could potentially cripple your connection. Saying they could speed up the service is a lie, its still ADSL hardware so still with the 8mbit cap. Only if their hardware adjusted contention ratios or was of a higher quality than BT's would you notice a faster speed.
I thought it could have been LLU, but then when I thought about it I am sure AOL had me on LLU, so I thought that Orange would just put me on through LLU? I am sure I am, because this is why I didn't have internet for 5ish days, becuase they had to sort it out
It better not be a nightmare Otherwise I don't think I'll be a happy bunny. I need the internet Every day for work
LLU is provider specific. AOL might of had their hardware installed but Orange don't have theirs. For instance, my exchange has Bulldog, Be*, Sky and AOL, but no Orange LLU (yet).
If you go here and put in your postcode or town name, you should be able to find out the status of your exchange and whether LLU is on the way or already installed.
On other news, my connection's not too hot. No throttling (yay!), but intermittant disconnections. It feels like every other webpage I visit won't load, though a refresh 10 seconds later and it comes up fine. Though, this PC is connected to the Yellow ethernet port and I've heard problems about using it (should be using the red, but the other PC is going through that). Still, its tolerable, I'll just give it a week and see how bad it is before complaining. Might just be probing the line after the switchover to resync it, or something.
Oh, and a quick phonecall to Orange (as the PC World guy said to do), was apparently all triggered last night and I should recieve my letter by next Friday. Guy on the phone didn't sound too pleased, so whether all my calls have left a black mark on my record or they're fed up of dealing with letter complaints, but still, I'm sorted now.
Make note of your upload and download synch speeds and results from a handful of speedtest results so you can compare before and after. However don't be surprised if you see no change on the 12th, as the migration may not go through until a few days afterwards
Joy. I bet I don't have Internet for a couple of days from the 13th onwards. My speeds are already at the top end of my limit, but I'll keep a watch for it. Thanks.
