Got into PC World, spoke to the manager I think. Spent a good hour or so sorting it out. Great guy, got things sorted at long last (or I pray not another fob off). The new MAC code's gone through, and I should get all the stuff in 10 days. He then said, whilst it usually takes a few days after that for the next letter to come through (the laptop claims one), I should phone them up again when I get the hardware and they should speed up the process and send out the letter then. Judging from how long other people on this forum have taken to get the hardware / connection, any luck and it'll all be done with in a week.
On other news, there 'may' be another laptop deal coming up. Though the selection is more limited this time, a choice of 2 laptops or a desktop PC, wasn't told what models they were. When's this deal? Starting tommorow, apparently. Keeping the selection limited this time to save confusion on Orange's behalf I'm guessing, but 3 cheers for the guys at PC World for sorting it out.
I doubt very much you will go back up to the 3.3mb speed.
Thanks for the reply. I probably have been lucky time-wise. Everyone at Currys was polite (although the first guy I spoke to said my laptop choice had a non-integrated nVidia card when I was well aware it had integrated Intel graphics!)
As for the speed, do you say that from personal experience or is there a technical reason why you believe that?
Or is it just a case of "It's Orange, so of course things will go downhill!"?
The reason I say that is from viewing other people's posts. Also the only reason your speed has been reduced is if Orange think your line isn't stable. The 3.3 mgs is probably the max limit your line will go to, so Orange have reduced it so they know it will be stable, that also happens with AOL, but they are a bit more open about it.

Thats not technically correct. It's an ADSL Max line as shown by the speedtests in another thread. The stability and capping of ADSL Max is handled almost exclusively by BT and the automated systems that control the line. If the line is capped this is usually done due to a fault and is pretty uncommon.
PC World is to once again offer new Orange broadband customers large discounts on laptops - but it won't be repeating its free notebook offer for now.
From August 31 the company will offer new Orange subscribers between £200-£330 off a selected range of laptops and desktops. Customers will now have to pay £180 for the cheapest laptop model, and £165 for the cheapest desktop, after the discount. It's a far cry from the free laptop or £350 discount on any PC World laptop that was being offered previously.
PC World and Orange are clearly experimenting with different pricing models, but the PC World spokesman insists the free laptop offer wasn't an expensive mistake for the companies and says there's a possibility the promotion will be repeated at a later date.
Haw Haw! So much for exclusive, I mentioned a second deal the day before! Sure, I didn't have complete details on it but nerrrrrr.
On other news, not recieved anything yet. Checked the account details online and its all been switched to the dial up package... so... either expecting they'll provide me with a new account (like they've been saying) or they've messed things up again.
Well my assumption is the old account has been closed, because their system is poorly designed and to try a new MAC code they needed to make a new account, but instead of removing it from the system like they should (say, if I had important emails on there), its been knocked down to a dial up pay as you go thing (useful, as it means I won't get billed twice for broadband). Thats my theory anyways, but it seems to fit in with the excuses they've given recently.
Sadly now, however, I don't have details for a new account if I've been assigned one, so I'm reliant now on recieving their welcome pack and hardware (previously I could just use my old router if they switched me over before I recieved the hardware). But yeh, still nothing. To be honest I wasn't expecting anything till monday though, don't get post on wednesdays and 1 or 2 days seems a bit quick for Orange to get things sorted
Oh, and the new deal sucks. Its still not bad (the desktop is the best thing to get from it), but I think the EI system laptop they offer for over £150 is either the same as the one that was free in the previous offer, or the cheap one at about £20.
Yeah, I thought it might be that £20 one, when I was out shopping yesterday I noticed at Currys they had £250 off a pc when signing up to Orange? But the website says £300? I bet it'll be another shambles!
Nope not yet, but meh, only been what, 4 days since they said it was sorted? I'll give them 6 more and then if still not sorted I'll demand they remove my details from the system.
The AOL/Dell/ Carphone Warehouse deal starts on the 5th, free laptop only but it looks to be on par (if not better than) the £69.99 Orange one (though there is a £14.99 delivery charge). I'll sign up for that should Orange fall through, which it looks like it might. Thankfully AOL have the LLU enabled at our exchange (and Orange don't), so the Wireless Plus package is at £19.99 a month instead of £24.99.
ha ha, looks like they've screwed up already, check their front screen (pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editorial/orange-offer) for the latest deal on the Acer dual core (AC5633) , their offering it at £359.98 instead of their normal retail price of..............£359.98 - what a great saving !
ps - still waiting for my voucher to arrive. 'phoned on Friday and the guy said it should be sent 'any day now', I'll be 'phoning again on Wednesday and I won't be a happy bunny
also just noticed that this new offer Clearly states 18 month contract with first 3 months £7.49, this time it's taking 15 days to verify your bank account details, however they've onvce again omitted to mention how long you may have to wait for the fabled voucher to arrive
