Well I got my MAC code from Orange, I have migrated to IDNet and went live today no probs, no BB I was for about 5hrs....but not a big deal as Orange dial up still worked......so far...so good.
Now I want to close my Orange account (I'm well out of contract) so its 30 days notice, I sent Orange an email giving notice and saying I would also send it in writing.........recieved a stupid reply starting with this:

So how do I get through to them that I am closing the account?

When i migrated from Orange LLU to IDNet adslmax my downtime was roughly 5-7 minutes, my migration from IDNet to Bethere LLU the downtime was around 20-25 minutes.

I take it you must have gone from Orange LLU then -
Yes, it was a LLU line. There was no BB when I checked at about 7 am. but IDNet had said it would be active today by 6 pm, it went live about lunch time.I called them up and a guy then called back and helped with the settings.
To be fair I never had major probs with Orange, speed was fine but since LLU I kept getting disconnections although it would go stright back on.
After reading this forum I deceided to get out befor the ship sank
I too moved to Idnet, last August, after the nightmares with Orange.
Never had a disconnection once in all that time and I am a heavy user - games!
The speed slowed down from 3 MB to 2.4 MB once but I rang them and they sorted it within the hour and it was back upto 3 MB.
Idnet are a first class example of a company that cares for its customers and not just their money like Orange.
Just realised it's 31 August today so by tomorrow my post could be ambiguous!
I moved to Idnet in August 2006, so in a year I have never had a disconnection.
There shouldn't really be a need to give notice as once they get confirmation the MAC has been used and you've migrated it should automatically start the 30 day notice.

Yes .....in a perfect world I would expect that to happen..... but we live in an "orange world" and from what I am led to beleive ( from this forum) things are just not that simple.........just trying to cover all bases .....I dont need the hassles in my life like some forum members have

Your best bet is to cancel your DD at least then they can't take any more money out of your account they get notified when u have migrated but Orange never seem to take notice and still take money out so just cancel ur DD.

I agree with steve - cancel your DD immediately.
There's a chance you will get an email next month saying the usual 'we cannot take payment from your account'.
Again this is Orange's departments not communicating as each doesn't seem to know where or what the others are doing and so probably don't even know that you've not got an account anymore.
Just ignore it - no account no pay.
Unfortunately all Orange appear to care about is taking customers' money.
I am in the process of terminating my Orange Contract (see my thread on "Do I need a MAC?"), and rang my bank (Natwest) to cancel the direct debit, which they duly did.
A word of warning though...Natwest told me that as I was still officially in contract with Orange, and had signed an agreement which was still valid, that any time during the remainder of the contract Orange could re-establish the direct debit without any notification or agreement from me.
Now, Natwest have usually been pretty darn good to me, so I do believe what they have to say about this. I'm now in the fortunate position of Orange having cancelled the contract, not me, so it's highly unlikely that they will try to re-establish the DD. However, if anyone reading this is in the position of trying to cancel their DD whilst still in contract then it's something to be wary of.
On the plus side, Natwest did say that if Orange tried this sneaky trick and I spotted it fairly quickly, they could recall the DD. It just means that I have to keep checking my account.
(apologies for sort-of hijacking the thread but I just wanted to warn anyone who had cancelled their DD that that might not be the end of it!).
Yes most new direct debit instructions these days are done electronically. I can't remember signing any when I moved all mine over (to incidentally Natwest). The unfortunate thing is, they don't seem to appear in your direct debit list either until the first (new) payment goes out
But when I cancelled (via internet banking) an old council tax DD (the current DD was still live), the council wrote to me asking how I was intending to pay the rest of this year's council tax.
So I don't believe a bank will re-instate a DD without a mandate being signed.
Existing DDs being moved to a new bank wouldn't need a new mandate.
