What happens is line test raised, engineers standard course of action for most LLU faults is a downgrade to 2 meg. If that fixes the problem then its tough you are stuck on that an no amount of complaining will get it increased again.
If this doesnt fix it then likellhood is you will be downgraded in increments of 512k until it is fixed or until it cant go any lower.
I can understand that, but all that is doing is making an Orange LLU connection stable.
However if you go to another provider your speed will increase to what it should be.
I haven't received a replacement Livebox as yet, but I am now up and running on the original Livebox!
It appears that from several other conversations -and via my own experience- that after the LLU went through the Livebox appeared to be blocked somehow and all that was needed was another router (or whatever) to break the log-jam.
I haven't changed any settings in the Livebox subsequent to successfully connecting with the (borrowed) Belkin router and my own Speedtouch 510 v4, i.e. the userid and password combinations just worked!
Weird!
My BB service simply stopped yesterday (Tues 15th Aug) evening with ... you guessed ... PPP server down.
Talking to a technical support bod this morning, he told me that there were "...problems with the BT line...", yeah right! I asked him if he was telling me that it was a problem with myBT line, he said "no"!! WTF?
So now I'm waiting for a call back from Orange to tell me what's happening - not hopeful as they haven't managed a call back yet (apart from the "they'll call back in ten minutes" option which has been made).
We have got our crappy livebox out of storage, after Orange kept blaming it on our Belkin router. Livebox says PPP server down, has done for 2 weeks now. Trying to find a decent ISP to change to, Every time we ring up they tell us to do the same things. The so called tests they are doing arent working ffs. Just hope we can get the MAC key out of them. >.>

They didn't put up much of a fight, just accepted that they'd done a poor job!
Hopefully, the MAC code will be with me next week - BY POST.

I insisted on mine by email due to postal strikes - it arrived in < 48 hours

Well, I'm amazed! Despite Orange telling me that my MAC would arrive by post in 3-5 days - Friday at the latest - as of today - er, Thursday - they still haven't got a round to getting one! Oh wait, the 3-5 working days for the replacement Livebox didn't materialize, or the 3-5 days and the connection will be working or the FOLLOWING 3-5 days and the connection will be working or .... well I think we see a pattern!
