I have been a wanadoo/orange customer for the past 18 months with no connection probs (hurrah!), however last sunday I lost service. The connection between my computer and wireless ADSL router was fine but I was unable to access the internet. Being concerned that this might be a signal problem I disconnected my router, reinstalled and connected my speed touch modem to see the now familiar flashing green ADSL light.
Following numerous frustrating and expensive calls to customer service and tech support (yes the 090 number!). A line check was authorised. Within ten minutes of putting down the phone, my land line made a few "chimes" (as it was about to ring) and miraculously the ASDL light went to a solid green. Fortunately the internet stayed with me for the rest of the day, unfortunately the same problem has recurred intermitantly over the past week.
As far as I am concerned this seems to be a problem with the ADSL signal provided by Orange, but not being technically minded I was wondering if there is anything I might be doing to cause this. Orange said they would refund the call costs if the fault was found to originate with them, however an Orange employee did phone me and left a message on my answer phone to say the line check found no fault.
Any ideas people?? I am quite prepared to kick up a fuss with Orange if the fault genuinely lies with them, however I don't want to look like an idiot if is some fault at my end.
I would doubt very much that its anything you have done.....if you're on LLU then it's more likely Orange engineers are meddling with things that they don't really understand and/or don't appreciate the consequences of the changes that they're making.
Thanks for your reply. How do I know if I'm on LLU? Is there any chance Orange have changed me on to this recently and this is why I'm getting probs, or do they have to notify you if they change you over?? Mind you knowing the communication difficulties of this global telecommunications company I wouldn't be suprised if they'd omitted to tell me!!

Of course they don't. Last November they told me that I was being upgraded not put on LLU.
That will just show if your exchange has LLU capability. Orange have both Max and LLU on my exchange. To check if you personally are on LLU you're best off looking at your router 192.168.1.1 . If the upstream speed is 288 you're on LLU
According to samknows Orange don't have LLU on my exchange, however my router says my upstream is 288, so not sure what to think!
On my original point - I decided to give my router a try as I was sick of intermittently getting a flashing adsl light on the speedtouch modem and hence not able to connect. Imagine my surprise when despite still having to flashing green asl light on the speedtouch modem, my router allowed me to connect to the internet straight off!!
Not sure what to think now; orange signal problems or b**gered speed touch modem. Most likely both! I am now even starting to get paraniod and wonder whether they limit access using their hardware?? On second thoughts listening to the hoards of technical probs on this website I can't believe they are technically sophisticated enough for that! Either way think the best solution is to get out as soon as my contract ends!!

If you are not on LLU then the 288 upstream means you are on a fixed ADSL service. You will be able to tell by looking at your downstream. 1152 then its 1meg 2272 and it 2meg.

There's also 576 for 1/2 meg connections. A sync speed of anything else means you are on an LLU connection. Samknows is good but Orange don't provide them LLU exchange details so you have to take what it shows in regards Orange with a pinch of salt. Always best to examine your connection details for clues instead.
Just remember even if your connection is sync'd at 2272 or 1152 (they use 608 for 1/2 a meg) it doesn't guarantee you're on either IPStream or LLU.
In fact the best way to find out is by trying to run a BT speedtest. If it lets you it's IPStream, if it doesn't (try it a few times at different times of day to be sure as it can get busy) then you're likely on LLU.

You need to read the posts. The reply was given exactly on the basis of what the poster said. I am aware of the half meg fixed service. I never was one for semantics.

Maybe so but often I post stuff like this to try and clarify things to anyone who happens to read the thread so a user on an IPStream 1/2 meg connection won't then get the wrong idea.
