I was told by Orange tech support that using my normal belkin router is the reason for my crap connection and ups and downs *coughs*.
They offered me a live box, and claim it will fix any problems. My connection used be up to 4mb but these days im getting around 1/8th of that i figure since they LLU'd all over me.
My question to you guys, is this. Is this the livebox really going to make any difference here? I believe it's a load of crap, however i am not sure if it works better somehow from an encoding point of view on the line?
Also, if i took this offer, i'd be saddled with a 12 month contract, so BAD move if it isnt going to help.
Yes, just leave. You are exactly where I was last November:
"Upgraded" by Orange, dreadful connections, Orange blaming my up-till-then trusty Netgear Router, promising me that the Livebox would solve the problems "I" was having. Conned into 12 month contract. Stability only achieved by capping at 520Kbs.
I migrated out yesterday.

Orange LOVE to blame everything but their own equipment so dont be caught by the "we do not support "...tag... Belkin, Netgear, Linksys ... all work ... i think you will probably find the Livebox is the one that doesnt lol
Get out while you can, I had slow speeds (I thinked I was capped but Orange wouldn't admit to it) and was told repeatedly I had a faulty line. Finally migrated to a new ISP and my connection speeds have shot up.

Tech support refuse to support me unless I tell them the status lights on the livebox. Fortunately I dug mine out and it wouldn't even synch to the exchange whereas my 3rd party router did

I totally agree with the others, i think what u was told is also in their scripts they just edit it to whatever router you say your using.
I would ask for a MAC and migrate away you will most likely will find your line and router will work fine Belkins are good routers and popular unlike their Livebox.

My connection was pathetic and I was put off with out and out LIES as to when they would give me the service I was supposed to be getting. I left them and am now a very happy BT customer getting at best 6.2MB speeds and at peak times between 3 and 4 MB. I had a livebox, twice and it made no difference. Leave Orange, you will not regret it.
