Hi elhana i have tried to connect to the site with 91.186.7.162 it just times out the same done a ping test on the site it times out on all four packets and also on tracert its exactly the same Orange keep saying renew my tcp ip settings need refreshing thats what i have also done with no results got me stumped this one thanks alot all the best steve
I forgot the tracert won't work unless you turn off the livebox firewall. That would show the most info as it should give the point at which the connection drops off along the route.
As far as I can tell everything for the site is up and running, no major problems that should cause it to not be accessable so it sounds like just something misconfigured along the route, especially as you don't get to the hosting company page when trying the IP.
Hiya elhana this is the result of the tracert with the livebox firewall disabled i recon by looking at that that there is a problem with Orange's server what do you recon??? From 13 to 30 they all timed out

Well that shows up 2 problems along the route. The first time out will likely be on Orange's network as the next hop comes back mentioning Orange and hutchinson cellular services. The second time out looks to be on a deadicated peering service, it may have nothing to do with Orange. You could try emailing them with details of the the tracert.
Make sure that your router does NOT have a lower MTU than the PC.

I have succesfully managed to alter the settings as prescribed in previous posts and I can access about 99% of sites that I couldn't previously.
For the 1% that I still can't (e.g Youtube and Big Brother ) does this mean that I still need to tweak the settings further?
For info. I applied an MTU setting of 1430.
Thanks
The only way ive got it spot on in the past is after every tweak and reboot go back to dslreports and retesting.
Still got continuing problems related to all the above, the best performance I get is through a PPPoE connection type with MTU settings of 1430. I understand I still need to tweak the settings further but what increments do I change it by (eg from 1430 to 1429 to 1428 etc. or in larger multiples?)
I had all these problems with a 8meg Orange connection i sorted it out by having it cut off and going with Virgin media got no probs now Orange broadband is rubbish
About 4 weeks ago both my desktop and laptop started with the issue mentioned at the start of this topic. Rang the now infamous Orange tech support who knew less about PCs than I and I'm no expert - simply an internet surfer. After many phone calls the detail of which I wont bore you with I returned back to work after the Xmas break yesterday, did a bit of googling, found this website and threads, went home and lo and behold a bit of pinging and MTU changes later on my wireless router and Vista settings (as noted elsewhere) everything works once more! Many thanks to all and this site is now logged as one of my favourites!
Cheers to the real technical support guys & girls here.
Can I say a BIG thank you to people on here. I joined because I'd been unable to access various site for a month. In this time I'd tried many solutions that didn't work. I downloaded & ran the Kitz tweaking software & I've now got back MSN messenger & my webmail address book. Now if I can work out how to re-save my Speedtouch password & stop the connection falling over I'll be made
