This was posted in general problems with a poll attatched to it but i figured coz of the tech talk involved it might be good putting it in here too
The lies i have had with Orange is unbelievable, im supposed to have an 8mb connection, the line was disconnecting itself, but instead of enabling interleaving and monitoring the stability on the line, they said my line could only handle a 1mb connection, however the speed has further dropped to a 608k connection, now this is a complete lie as i have a friend who works for an isp and he was kind enuff to test the line himself. here are the results
ANFP X - Extra short
Line Length 2170 m
A-Earth Capacitance 149 nF
B-Earth Capacitance 141 nF
Downstream Sync 608 kbps
Downsteam Attenuation 34.0 dB
Downsteam Noise Margin 30.3 dB
Upstream Sync 288 kbps
Upstream Attenuation 36.0 dB
Upstream Noise Margin 26.3 dB
now this line shud easily take an 8mb connection, but not only are they lying, they are still charging me the full price for a line that is 13 times slower than what it should be.
i have tested the line with various routers, microflters and i even took the panal off my phone socket and used the master test socket (i have a NTE5 socket) and i still got all the same information, not to mention i even tried factory resets on all the routers.
cant wait to see what they say about this one when i call.....

Orange's LLU, as far as I've seen, doesn't use interleaving. I've never seen it enabled on any of the postings of stats made here yet.

Form a pure stats point of view yes, it should be able to take 8 meg. One thing you have failed to mention is if the disconnections were cured by the downgrade? Also do you know the error stats from when it was on 8 meg?
While the line could take 8 meg, with interleaving etc, as LLU doesn't use this the only option to improve stability and/or reduce errors is to reduce the line speed. Though I am surprised it got reduced so much.

Price is based on package not line speed.

As you've shown the line can take more and the router/wiring doesn't appear to be an issue. As to why it was downgraded to 1 meg, usually they go to 2 rather than 1, and then 608, I just don't know.
ahh right yes i can see what you are saying, well before it went down to 1mb and then 608 they did put it to 2mb, once it had gone to 2mb it did stop disconnecting so maybe that was right of them to do, but since then i cant understand the further drops in speed, unfortunatly i dont have the stats from when it was 8mb as i didnt have a problem with the speeds back then, but thank you for your help, i have come to the decision i might be better off switching to a cable provider, it seems to be the only way im going to get a decent internet connection without any hassle.
