So I rang Orange to request a MAC 11/7/07, and the young lady I spoke to, was unbelievably rude, so rude infact I forgot to ask about if I needed to give 30 days notice. So, instead of subjecting myself to the frosty reception of Orange again, I contacted their broadband support team via email... with this message:
Quote:
wanting to move isp's, I requested a MAC code today, do i need to give 30days notice in addition to my MAC code request? or is it assumed that when the MAC is used by the new isp,
that that is my 30 days notice?
The message I recieved back was utter rubbish in relation to my email to them:
We have requested a MAC code for which you will recieve within 5 working
days.
We advise you to call our customer support at 0870 010 2462 ivr option 1
and 4 as we are a web support are unable to accept 30 days notice of
cancellation.
So, realised I've had TWO MACs requested, I rang Orange this morning, to find out that the person I spoke to on the 11th, hadn't requested a MAC for me... (obviously because I hadn't take a cheap deal bait from her she decided to screw me over).
Now I have to wait another 5 days, and as my direct debit is due to go out on monday, by the time I get my MAC over to my new isp, and they get the ball rolling, I could be in for another £17.99 taken from my account. Well they can forget that, I'm cancelling my D/D. RANT OVER!
Ok but if you do that they will invalidate your MAC,heres a copy and paste from my e mail from them.
"If you cancel your account before your move is complete, your MAC code
will be invalid and your move will be rejected. You'll then need to
request another MAC code."
AFAIK MAC's can only be invalidated by regrades and migrations of the actual service on the line itself. OFCOM rules mean they can't legally interfere with the MAC process.

I wasn't aware that cancelling your direct debit would be taken by Orange as an account cancellation.

It's not usually but can lead to termination due to non-payment.
I think they first email you and then write to you at your registered address before terminating your account for non payment. Would all this take place within the migration time scale if you played your cards right? Just a thought.
I just pasted that from the email I got with my MAC not sure how to read that really. But its probably wise just to go through the motions and worry about the payments later. My payment gets taken out on monday thats the day I move.I will talk with them about payment later.

Thanks for the replies guys, when i say i'm going to cancel my d/d, i mean after the migration takes place.
IE tomorrow my D/D goes out for the coming month, but as I haven't recieved my MAC yet, another D/D will be due to go out before my 30days post MAC usage is up.
That make sense? Kinda does to me but I'm a bit useless at explaining myself.

Well, rang Orange today to find out where the hell my MAC is... wasn't ordered last friday either... so third time lucky I'm hoping.
Offering me all kind of free packages etc, not interested after the way I've been treat, however I was nice and polite, and thanked him for informing me of the offer, but I wasnt interested, and all of a sudden he bacame hostile, typical!
Sooooo, not only does Orange customer service truely suck, i think they all need to have some treatment for their aggression at that place!
