well I have surfed about on this site for a while but not seen a specific answer to my question, so I'll explain:
We got the livebox a couple months ago, waited for Orange to turn the line on or whatever it is they do to activate a new account. Husband hooked everything up and it was working great! We had phone, TV, and internet all through the phone line with the livebox. The husband and I both have laptops wirelessly talking to the livebox and that's how we do the internet.
one afternoon I came home and found I couldn't connect wirelessly to the internet. Husband said he thought it might be because he was downloading a bunch of stuff and that I should try to plug my laptop directly into the livebox using an ethernet cable.
When I tried this, I accidentally unplugged the livebox. I may or may not have also hit one of the two buttons back there (which are annoyingly close to the power plug - whose brilliant idea was that?) anyway, after I pulled this genius move obviously neither of us could connect. Plugged everything back in, tried to connect. Nothing.
The livebox now has the @ light blinking slowly. we can still talk to it wirelessly by going to 192.168.1.1, where it says our internet and phone are deactivated (oddly, TV still works). The internet status is "connection in course" or something like that. When you try to activate, or to enter name and password, you get a "please wait" message, which eventually times out.
We tried the unplugging it for 20 minutes, factory resetting it and installing all the software again. Nada.
What to do? If this is something that is Orange's fault, is it just a terrible coincidence that it happened at the exact same time I touched the livebox?
Here's the kicker: we're in France and we don't speak french so we can't really call customer support - we tried and they had us doing a bunch of "repair network connection" crap on the laptop when it seems like it's an Orange problem - we can't get internet if that @ light isn't solid! After reading all these posts it seems calling them won't really get us anywhere anyhow, so I thought I'd try this as a last ditch effort to diagnose our problem.
I do have a user name and password. The user name looks like fti/xxxxxxx as mentioned in the posts you linked.
Anyway, I can get to an "internet connection status" screen. At the top there are two boxes for name and password, and a button that says "validate"
At the bottom there is a connection status window, which says
1. status : negotiating
2. connection: negotiating
3. IP address : unknown
4. time connected: 0:00:00
or something like that (I am at work now and typing this all from memory). Then there is a button that says "connect."
If I try to click either "validate" or "connect" I get the same thing: a screen which tells me that my livebox is trying to connect to the internet (which I already know from the flashing @ light) and then a timeout error.
I'm just so stumped trying to figure this out because before I touched the livebox, everything was fine! I must have the touch of death.
