I've been using Orange broadband since they were Freeserve and ever since I upgraded to broadband during the Wanadoo era and have used my Cable & Wireless third party router with no problems. However weeks ago my router suddenly stopped working even though it detects the ISP and internet connection.
I have tried to get it working again and again but to no avail, I am currently using the horrible USB Speedtouch router that was provided, oh so many years ago.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, have you resolved it? All and any input would be greatly appreciated.
If the speedtouch works but your router doesn't then either there's a problem with the router, it's settings or the PC itself.
Firstly can you access the router's pages and can have you checked the details match, as best you can, the ones on the Orange settings link at the top of the page?
I recently had a problem with my router where I locked down the range of IP addresses it was dishing out to just 2 (to cover a PC and a laptop). I then attached my new PC to the hard wired port instead of my old one, and it wasn't getting an IP address (and consequently no internet). The laptop was on, but for some reason the other IP address must have been "booked out" according to the router. I just logged on to the router wirelessly with the laptop and changed the range of IP's it was dishing out, typed in
ipconfig /renew
on my PC and I had an IP address and internet
On my new PC I did very little to enable me to use the LAN port. On the PC I'd check
the NIC card is enabled in the BIOS
does it appear as a valid device in device manager with no yellow question mark
in the sys tray, is it showing is disconnected (with a cross over the top)
is there a firewall blocking it?
Good Luck and come back if you need any more help !

Thanks

Hi Dave
I would follow sweeperdogs advice reconnect your router then go to Start > Run type in cmd click ok then type in ipconfig /release hit enter then type ipconfig /renew then enter, then shut your pc down, then unplug your router for a couple of minutes plug it back in (before you put the pc back on) then boot your pc back up.
