We have been using Orange since they were Freeserve initially then Wanadoo on our home pc, looking on google for solutions to problems we have been experiencing since we upgraded to the new Orange service I found this site.
After reading some posts I thought I should just ask for those more knowledgeable about these things.
The issues we are having are poor connection speeds when browsing, downloading, uploading and gaming with frequent disconnects where the router does the flashing lights routine on and off every evening.
The ports are set correctly, totally removing security software made no difference, even if it had there is no way we would accept running without AV and Firewall as an acceptable solution.
We even checked the cables.
Orange have unfortunately on separate occasions not understood our request for support nor offered any solutions.
The router is reporting the following information.
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 6.4
Attenuation (dB) : 45.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 3808
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 3776 448
Can someone put in basic terms what we can expect from this, is it simply not efficient for anything that takes time online and moreover frustrating at best for even simple tasks, now if a page is taking a while to load or my email seems to be hanging I know I just need to look at the router to see those dammed flashing red dots.
If it makes a difference we are using XP-Pro SP2 fresh full install.
At the moment it's been advised for customers to expect slow issues (if they occur) and expect a remedy possibly in the next week. Get subsquent readings from places such as thinkbroadband, make sure you have changed your filter (you will be asked), possibly telephone cable from the filter to the Livebox (rj11) and attempt a factory reset (here for guide). All done. Depending on type of line, a line test could be put forward.
Orange always fob customer soff with excuses - ring back in 48 hours, we are upgrading etc etc.
The only way to get a decent connection is to move to a real ISP.
I did just that last year and never had a problem since.
