I just called Orange to request a MAC Key and was told about an offer they had if I stayed with them which I said I didn't want. The guy told me there was a problem in my area which was being fixed right now. The first time I have actually had any sort of information from CS that a problem exists in my area and something is being done about it. They said they wanted to pass me on to technical support with British speaking support who would see if they could sort out the problem.
I go through to him and he asks me to do a speed test which is obvious to him that it's extremely slow. He says they're aware of the problems in my area and to log my speeds and call back in a few weeks
So I say I just want my MAC Key, he says I'm within my rights to ask for that but the department that could give me that is now closed. This is a call just after 10pm. He says I should call back tomorrow if I wish to leave them and get a MAC Key.
I'm planning on changing my ISP and would just like the MAC Key. Was he being truthful about the department being closed? And do I have to cancel at the same time as getting the MAC Key or not?
Whatever happens DO NOT let them persuade you into taking out a new 12 month contract.
They will often try alsorts of lies like offering you a free period etc.
They HAVE TO give you a MAC code within 5 days of requesting it, by law.
Not sure how much truth there is in him saying the MAC code dept is closed but ring back tomorrow and get one.
The sooner you leave Orange the quicker you will be getting a real connection when you move to anew ISP.

Oh there's no way they'll persuade me into anything. Even if my connection was to be fixed right now I'd be thinking of going, Orange is just bad on everything and there are much better deals out there. Never had problems as such with Orange just never a great speed. But these new problems they're having is losing them customers because it's making people get onto them and they're soon discovering just what Orange is really like. The CS itself is enough to make you want out ASAP.
I'm venturing into the world of online gaming and just got a PS3 so will hopefully be making more use of being online with that (so far I can't do anything on my new £399 PS3 due to constant disconnections, oh what a nice surprise that was, thanks Orange!) so I will be needing a better ISP for the future. Just hope moving goes okay.

Hi Deano all you need is your MAC do NOT ask to cancel when you get your MAC give it to your new provider they will do the rest then when your migration is complete (connected via your new ISP) cancel your direct debits to Orange.

Yeah it does close at 10pm. As already mentioned just ask for your MAC code, cancellation should be automatic once the migration goes through.

I just called to get the MAC code again and when I got through to a woman, she asked why I was thinking of leaving Orange and I said it was the service, speed and the fact there are better deals.
I can't believe what happened next, she just goes Awwww and then hung up on me!!!

Just got through again and this time spoke to two nice ladies and getting the MAC Code sent now. It's amazing with Orange how you can get really bad support but then call one time and there are some decent helpful people on the lines. It's just a shame about the bad ones. They also appear to have so many excuses for the speed issue. I must have heard about 10 completely different stories now. Was just told a Livebox would fix my problems when just last night I was told to wait weeks to have the problem fixed. No wonder people are just wanting to leave.
I've never had problems with Orange before now and think it's a shame that one fault has really shown their true colours. But some would say that's a blessing. I'm thinking of going with Be. I hope all is going to go okay.
