Well, I've had the congratulations 8Mb email and now my download speed is just over 200Kb/s!!! My exchange is Hartford and I'm using a Speedtouch 330 on Vista.
Yup same here, then Orange tell me to check my cables etc. even when I post my line stats which suggests everything's ok. I emailled them over the weekend because I thought the excessive speed issues were probablly fairly local since some improvements seem to have ben made in Bristol and Manchester areas among others.
Orange keep lying to me that I have been upgraded to the 8mb speed (when in fact my d/l speeds are slightly lower than when I was on the old speedtouch modem) although my upload speed is up by around 50%.
I know my exchange has not had the LLU work done so how the hell can they have put me on the 8mb speed?
They have claimed capacity constraints are why my speeds are so low (just under 2mb) but without doing the LLU how can this be anything but an excuse/lie?
Unfortunately here in NI the alternative options are not so good but BT have got to be better than this (and I hear the 16mb Sky service is due here soon).
I think I'm leaving shortly (after 4+yrs).
Orange use IPStream Max when there is no LLU, which is a BT product.
- Oh righto, thanks for that, my mistake (and I'll have to stop saying they lied to me then )
Funnily enough today they have writen to me saying "your line is not provisioned at LLU but your line is provisioned upto 8 Meg.
If you want to know when LLU work will be done in your area please
contact Orange Customer Support on 0870 010 2462 options 1-4."
All I want is a decent d/l speed, it's been over 6mths since I was conned into taking the upgrade(or should that just be called what it really amounted to, a new 12mth contract?).
(BTW on the BT tester I got a fraction under 1.9mb.
The congestion checker rather strangely told me "You either entered an invalid BT number or no exchanges where found.".......maybe Northern Ireland numbers aren't 'done'?)
For a month or so we appear to have been capped (the dreaded 608Kbps in the system tray icon)
Usual speed now down to 520Kbps, though sometimes in the 150-400 range.

My LLU is wallasey, merseyside, im stuck at 608/288 and paying for 8mb package, i have had a speed drop from Orange itself due to an unstable line but i think some of it has to do with my exchange too, when i did have 8mb it was around 7100/288, my speeds would be around 700kbp/s during the day and would drop to around 260kbp/s at peak hours, sometimes even less (around 170)
PATHETIC!!!

Speeds never exceed 100kpbs. I am on dialup now which is more reliable - at least web pages load etc
The Indian scripts refuse to assist you if you don't use a livebox - is it possible to connect and configure this in WindowsME without having to use the software disk
