I have been playing with this for the last 2 months or so. My peak time speed was crap down at 150kb, but in the morning it is 5mb. I call Orange and they line tested etc and still no change. I checked the modem stats and it told me my rate should be around 7mb.
I tried disconnecting and re connecting through the modem options and noticed a massive difference bewtween speeds and IP's address's. Using speedtest.net I would test it at peak time and connect and disconnect over and over until bingo full speed 5mb.
I made a note of the IP address and all was well for a couple of weeks. Then in the evening the speed had dropped back down to 200kb. I checked the IP and it hasd changed so the modem must have reset during the night. I did the connection, disconnect thing again but maybe 20 times and bingo full speed again.
This has been going on now for a couple of months and I can always get the speed back up to full even in peak time using this method. My modem always tells me I should be getting around 7mb.
This works for me and I can see no reason why it should not work for you if your speed is affected at peak times.
The longest I've had an IP address for seems to be about 2-3 weeks and I lost the best one I'd had running at 5.7mb. Its easy to find one running at 5.2mb with a bit of messing.
I hope this helps loads of people.
1) disconnect via modem options
2) reconnect via moden options
3) speedtest
4) repeat until off peak speed is reached.
IP's that start with 90 for me all seem really slow. 81 and 84 starts are not bad but my current 62 is very good day or night.
This needs to be done at peak time i.e 6pm - 10pm.
Let me know how you get on.
Regards Alfie

Be very careful of doing that if you're on an ADSL Max connection, the system may interpet multiple disconnections as instability and reduce your IP profile so you're actually worse off than when you started.
Thanks for the warning. I'm on ADSL Max and as yet I've had no problems and to say I have done it 100's of times would be about right.

That is exactly what I used to do, disconnect and do speed test many times till I got an IP at full speed. Unfortunately I have now been limited to 3mb
Cant get the jokers to change it back to full speed either.

They don't "change it back" because it's an automated system that varys the profile as it sees fit. Usually it's only limited by an engineer in response to a problem and even then thats rather uncommon as the system is designed to handle most issues like that.
Sure sometimes it can get stuck but in those cases if it's not below the MSR then nothing is "technically" wrong.
It's a general rule, don't cause multiple disconnections unless you're aware and are willing to accecpt the consequences they could bring.
5mb off peak and 150kb at peak time. I don't really think they could limit me at less than 150kb could they. So even if they limit me to 3 mb as long as it's constant it's better than nearly 30 times slower at 150kb, do you not agree?
