Keith,
I changed the USB bus mode to isochronous immediately after the
original 8 Mbps changeover from my 2 Mbps service in July 2006.
There may be still be a limitation with the modem which a router may
surmount. I think the time has come to try a router. It's a step forward
in any case and now I've got time over the summer to play about.
So, does anyone who uses a modem now see ~ 6-7 Mbps after their LLU
upgrade? Or is it just the router people?
Problem is, there are so many combinations out there:-
1. Orange Livebox
2. Non-Orange modem/router
3. Orange modem
4. Non-Orange modem
5. Orange modem + non-Orange router
6. Non-Orange modem + non-Orange router
What annoys me is the varioability in the speeds. At off peak times I've seen speeds up to 7.8Mbps at peak times it just plummets. Right now it's 100kbps. I expect a drop at peak time but an 80-fold drop is riduculous. BE here I come!

'Evening nhyder,
Yes, I've been leading a sheltered life and must get out more.
The problem is, there's a smegmatic ISP out there.

And it's the 15 June by when speed problems should have been resolved. I still think it depends where you are in the UK. I'm in N.E. Bristol (near M32/M4 junction) on the Downend exchange and :-

Indeed - I'm in NW England on the Newton-le-Willows exchange and I'm only 750m from the exchange so they can't say that it's anything to do with distance! Plus I can (occasionally) get very good speeds - but not generally at the times when I want to use it. I just don't see why I should have to get up a 4 in the morning to check my e-mails!
Anyway, enought moaning - I will give it a week (from their 15 June deadline) and if it's not significantly better then Orange will be minus another customer. Yet another who had been quite happy under Freeserve and Wanadoo.

Still going strong in Weston-super-Mare
Orange know exactly what the problem is with slow speeds, but my speeds show that they can get it right. It is now just a case of waiting but for how long is the question?
But customers have got to be realistic about what speed they will get depending on line length and condition. But you can improve, read following:
plus get decent filters and get rid of the usb modem.
No-one is going to get a speed of 8 so the very best you can get is just over 7. I believe that for me a speed of 6 is what I should get and that is what they are providing. But depending on your circumstances 3 could be very good.

Totally agree.....apart from a blip on June 6, I've found the service in N.E. Bristol acceptable for at least 3 weeks now :
