This is my first and possibly last post to this great site. I only discovered it today when I read a thread posted on the general board of Genes Reunited by some poor frustrated Orange customer.
At first I wished I'd discovered this site months ago when I was still with Orange, after all there is so much helpful advice here and it would have been so comforting to know that I wasn't going mad and the problems I was experiencing were all down to Orange and not my equipment or my technically challenged self.
However, now I think I'm glad I've discovered this site too late. Why? Because it might have encouraged me to keep trying to solve the problems I was experiencing by changing settings or re-complaining to Orange now that I was aware it was definitely their fault etc.etc. But why should any of us have to work that hard? I've left Orange now and have never looked back. I felt like throwing a party the day our connection changed to our new provider! You are paying for a service you are not getting. Why? Just Go!!!!
I know you may fear disruption in changing over providers or maybe you're unsure which one to choose, but let's face it, you're having disruption now or you wouldn't be on this site and just about any other provider has got to be an improvement. Gor for it, get your MAC code and go. They don't deserve to keep their customers. I've read some recent posts on here about outage problems etc. and these are the same problems I was having months and months ago - it is affecting a huge number of people and they have done nothing. They barely even admit to having a problem.
For those of you compelled to stay with Orange for whatever reason, I wish you and this site the best of luck. I hope your collective feedback and complaints eventually prompt Orange to get off their butts and sort out their problems - and quick!
We can't afford to employ Matrix Chambers to fight our case but would you have a word with your husband about our plight........or perhaps you could speak to Gordon on our behalf ?

I'm happy to be here nhyder. Unfortunately my husband is away at the moment (collecting free gifts from people who are glad to see the back of him). I don't speak to Gordon. Ever.
Actually, I'm not that Cherie, and I have very little influence in the world, but my goodness I felt powerful the day I got rid of the Orangeness in my life!
Nice to speak to you and I hope you resolve your Orange issues.
1. I naively thought Orange would get it sorted eventually. Their service went downhill the day they took over Wanadoo. (Or at least, by old Wanadoo's BB did. I hadn't been a customer of Orange's until then.)
I thought that if they could mess it up that quickly, they might be able to put it back together quickly.
Lesson learned there.
2. I kinda hoped that maybe with everyone leaving Orange, they would be left with such a small customer base that I'd be one of a few select customers. Especially if this co incided with 1, above.
That was sheer blind optimism I think, LOL.
But I hope the above two do happen - for those remaining customers. They deserve it.
But I agree with the thrust of your post - stop beating your head against a wall. Leave!! Get your MAC and go. (MAC / Coat, gettit?)

Perhaps they are sorting their problems area by area because I'm currently (and have been for the last 7 -10 days) enjoying a very similar performance to when it was Wanadoo back in May/June 2006.
OK, I've tweaked my settings (DNS and SMTP servers + MTU/RWIN) which I don't believe I should have to do without the ISP telling me. But at least I now have an acceptable service.
I've told Orange Broadband Response exactly what I've done, so now it's up to them to ignore or use the information.
For info I'm supplied on LLU from SSDOW (Downend, North East Bristol).
