Hi, i have been trying over the weekend to change my connection from a normal ADSL modem to a wireless 3com Router. However, i have been pulling my hair out.
I have one of these in another house, and the installation was easy, plug it in an away we go!
At my other house though, big problems. I am trying to connect the wireless 3 com router through the ethernet card at the back of the PC, then i can connect other PCs via wireless in the house. All installed ok, done al1 the setup using the http://192.168.1.1, installed for PPoA, all the lights are on on the modem except the internet light!!
My Laptop can see the wireless router, but cant connect. It seems that the router is not connecting to the internet, what am i missing here?? Any help please?
Some power supplies for 3com routers have a poor reputation because of the amount of electrical noise they produce. (Try a Google Groups search.)
Does it make any difference if you keep the power supply and its cables well away from any cables carrying phone/ADSL signals? Do you have an alternative power supply you could try?
I will have a look at this, when i log into the IP address for config, under internet settings it says DISCONNECTED, and the other menus say NA
Should it say connected in hear??
What i want, is when i turn the computer on, it automatically connects to teh internet as it detects the connection throught he ethernet card. The house then becomes wireless.
In reply to the power charger, i don't think it is that as i have tried moving it and it still have the same problem.
Elhana, i ahve done all the settings, PPPoA, username, password etc. But do i need an IP address in the box where it says as at the minute in internet settings on the 3com setup wizard it has the IP address as 000.00.00 etc??
I have a 3Com Wireless router, but with Orange|Wanadoo if I reboot the PC I need to go to 192.168.1.1 and click on CONNECT. It's always been the case with them (unlike say BT) that you have to log on.
Brilliant, all sounds good, i will see what i can do. Out of interest, is there anyone who can recommend a wireless router/modem for use with Wanadoo/Orange?
