Orange may already have removed they loop from my line. I've checked with a few ISPs and they are actually checking my line rather than giving me the "some other product is on your line" message. If this is right then it's the first decent and efficient service I have had from Orange.
On another note, and one that makes me grind my teeth, Orange have just put up a massive billboard round the corner from my flat advertising their new unlimited 8MB service!! I think I should put a big warning placard on it.
I'll be back to check the forum and I'll let people know how my new provider works out. I'm thinking of Tiscali at the minute as they are one of the few ISPs that offer an 8MB unlimited service, plus that is just on the Max service which can get me a speed of around 5.5MB which I would be happy with.

Tiscali is not unlimited although they advertise it they use FUP if you go over 2GB they send u a letter reminding you of it have a look on adslguide and DSL ZoneUK. the only true "unlimited" ISP left is AOL argghh lol Talk Talk just bought them out so that will change soon

Thanks for all the info, but I am still on the same sh*t.
I think I will cancel them soon (to lazy to do this now and also the fact that I occasionally feel the urge to surf), may be in January. My contract was extended so I should not be charged or anything like this although they sent me a new pdf file about hiring the sh*tty live box. Will see when I make the call. If they charge me, I will take this further, of course.
In all honesty, I made a mistake moving to the contract, I should have canceled it as the service deteriorated compared to freeserve/wanadoo era. I hope they arrange for the live box to be collected!
Since yesterday, my INTERNET was completely down until now (PPP Server Down). It could have been down whole week but I wouldn't know as I did not use it. I cant believe a service providers level of service detoriates so quickly, from being reasonable to complete sh*t.
I said I'd call back after I resolved my problems with Orange. I made a formal complaint in writing and, fair polay to them, they have dealt with it swiftly and made refund for my last two months of use with them even though I had already cancelled my contract. Can't fault the complaints department at all.
I'll sound a word of caution as well, Tiscali make Orange look like rank amateurs in the poor service department. Never touch them. It's cheap, but beleieve me, you get what you pay for.
Last Sat & Sunday had a PPP Server Problem so called CS to cancel my order, they tried to keep me, offered me 6mth free if I agree to a new 12 mth contract, which I refused. I requested for MAC code which came 2 days ago. During my conversation, lady from Care Depart me (lol) told me I should get 4mb, so called now (their Broadband LIVEBOX Team), and he repeated again that my line supports 0.5 meg.
I am thinking of moving to Tiscali UNLIMITED & ANYTIME CALL Plan, but it says I can only have 1mb, so could it be my line? I am on Mile End Exchange.
I am also considering AOL 2mb option without any contract.

Hi case_sensitiveuk
Without sounding rude they are the worst choices you could make after your Orange experience frying pan and fire come to mind i advise you to do some research check these sites and relevant ISP forums Thinkbroadband and DSL ZoneUK ISP Ratings where you will find Tiscali is at the bottom of the pile with Orange.
There are plenty of good ISP's with short contracts (1 month etc) that have good support and reputations don't just go for the big ones that advertise on telly its not always what it seems.
I am confused, lol ( I don't really like changing, been with freeserve\wanadoo\now Orange since 1998)...I am currently on £17.99 for UNLIMITED DOWNLOAD and ANYTIME CALLS plan, which I think is a good deal if everything worked i.e. I am on 2/4 mb. Ticali offers similar but it seems their service is unreliable, so I will not gain anything.
Do u know any ISP that offers similar at a high speed (4mg is fine by me)

I was also with Freeserve from the year dot and avoided as long as possible changing after the disastrous name change from Wanadoo to Orange but wasnt prepared to pay this dire company my hard earned money for f**k all only to be told a load of crap from so called CS and TS who dont give a toss so i done some extensive research after a lengthy saga trying to get a MAC from these people and made sure i didnt go from one excuse of a company to another.
In my opinion these bundled offers aren't what they seem as now people are gradually realising you pay for what you get Tiscali is one of the worst providers AOL has been taken over by Talk Talk and is rapidly going the same way if you check the forums posted it will confirm this.
My point is do some research and don't get yourself locked in another 12 month contract and not being able to get out of it.
Orange will give you a load of crap about changing like an LLU MAC is useless as no other provider accepts them etc its all crap to stop you leaving.

shauncwalsh, thanks, I logged a complaint now: Sumbiited the following (in rush)...
My user name: *******************
I have called and email Orange several times since they upgraded my account to the UNLIMITED PACKAGE upto 8mb speed (17/09/2006) about my speed (merely 512k). Orange responded (ALAN) to me by saying (REF:WOOBB): 'Your line is currently on the 512kbps speed as this is what the line can currently handle. By november the new adsl2 system should be in place and your connection speed will increase as the engineers work on the lines.'
I waited and then contacted Orange again reminding previous email and this is their (LEE)response (Wed 21/02/2007 13:27). "I have looked into your account and can confirm you are on a 0.5 meg connection. This is due to the fact we provide you with the fastest speed your line can support and remain stable. Your exchange can provide speeds of up to 4 meg, but due to variables beyond our control (distance from exchange, quality of your line/internal wiring) you cannot obtain a speed over 0.5 meg."
I contacted them by phone as well, their Care team say my line supports 4mb, but the technical guys says otherwise. Last email I got from Orange is: "Hello ******.
Thank you for your email.
We had upgraded your line for higher speed. However your line could only accept 0.5meg of speed.
We have searched through our online help to find the best answer for you.
Further development - I got a call yesterday from Orange customer service lady to say that she will get her technical team to investigate and she will call me. She called me to say they managed to increase my speed to 4mb. Came home and just checked, and my livebox saying:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 15.5
Attenuation (dB) : 51.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 6272
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 4096 288
Currently, my download speed is 2mb, an improvement.
I told her to confirm her convesation via email , which did not do so as of yet. I will monotor and see how long this need speed boost last.
