A quick synopsis.
On March 8 along with many other Wanadoo users in my area I was LLU'ed and the problems began. My connection became erratic and after two or Three weeks became unusable. Like most people this was just the start of a long process of fruitless calls to technical "help" lines and promises of line tests only some of which ever seemed to actually take place. Like many I soon discovered through this site and others that there was a serious problem with LLU. Foolishly I assumed that this being so, Wanadoo would have some kind of plan to ultimately corrrect all the problems. What I quickly discovered of course was that if Wanadoo have a plan they are certainly not sharing it. When it comes to LLU the help line staff are distinctly cagey and can offer no help or even admit the problem exists. Most of the so called help seemed designed to fob me off with any explanation that would get rid of me for a few more days.
In the end this was my biggest problem, none of my calls (or letters) could bring me any closer to a date when my connection might be restored. My first thought was to get a migration code but this also proved problematic. Wanadoo's code was not recognised by my new ISP. My only course was to cancel my account and wait for the line to be disconnected before starting again. Even cancelling was difficult, my first attempt was ignored but of course I didn't know that until more time had passed.
Wanadoo please note, my connection has now been useless for 12 weeks.
How can a company with such trully awful customer service expect any customer to stay with them. I know that other ISPs also use call centres but could any of them really be as bad as Wanadoo?
As for compensation I simply can't face another bout of phone calls so I will just walk away. I know that this is probably what they hope will happen but I have had enough of Wanadoo and that is worth something in itself.
The erratic green light went out two days ago and I am finally free of Wanadoo/Orange for ever!!
So goodbye and good luck to all who fight on.
Congratulations on being free, gatecharge! How long did it take between cancellation and a free line? I'm not being allowed to cancel so easily but I hope that when the time comes, it won't take another several months before I can sign on with another ISP.
How long did it take between cancellation and a free line?
After the second try at closing the account it took 9 days.
I think it is pretty scandalous that those under contract are forced to stay with a poor or non-existant service. The people who must really be fizzing are the ones who responded to the advertising for an 8meg service.
Good luck anyway!
gatecharge, Sorry to be a pain but was that 9 working days or calendar days? I was finally allowed to cancel my account just now. Now I must go searching for another ISP. Does anyone have any suggestions?
yep. And I am soon to be in an 18 month contracxt over the free broadband. As long as they dont LLU me, I'll be okay.
I'll cross my fingers for you. Honestly, my friends and family are absolutely amazed at all I've gone through. No one has ever heard of such a mess getting broadband. I lived in Vietnam before this and it was bad there but not half as bad as what I've gone through the past Three months. *sob*
I've stuck with Orange\Wanadoo as I'm using up my 4 free months compensation for my 2 months offline (LLUed 8 March - same day as Gatecharger)...
But - I'm now offline again and back to square one - calls to the fault repair team etc...... Exchange visit please!!!!
I really want to leave, but feel stubborn as I want to prove it's their fault not ours.... Want to go to Nildram - good reviews and the IT people's ISP of choice..
Well put Gatecharge, mine has been going on, and off ! , since 9th Feb (since LLU!).
Now stable but down to 1/2 meg.
When it works I'm happy with it especially the wireless and 'phone.
Why am I stopping ?
They have given me so much grief that it is now my turn, I am going to be a constant pain in their ar** untill I get what I pay for as regards speed, service, compensation!
I don't give up!
1 Step
PS I'm thinking of changing my name by deedpoll to Victor Meldrew
