does anyone know the best way to get your MAC code out of Orange ?
if i have to phone india support one more time i really think i will scream.
kept me the phone for 20 mins asking question after question to prove who i am then tell me the people that give you the code are closed.
Three times i have had this now, 10pm 6pm and 8am
If i have to spend another week with these people i will throw my laptop out the window with temper.
Say try between 10am and 3pm. I called once, spoke to India, they put me back to the UK then I changed my mind for a moment. Next time I called I spoke to someone in the UK, but then was transferred to someone else in the UK when I asked for my MAC
got my Be Broadband connection yesterday. so far no drop outs at all.
connection is stable with no line faults and yes Be Broadband use llu as well from the same exchange as Orange was.
when i got my MAC code then had the bear faced cheek to use it Orange started to limit my account even more. i had no peak time connections for a week before the swap over then they dropped out the line 12 hours before i got the text from be saying line is up and running.
so much for the 30 min down time then.
i only have one question for Orange and that is do you have real problems ? no i don't think so , do you limit your members online time ? yes i think you do if i could prove that i would drag you in to court.
this is now one happy puppy thats far away from all that Orange bull
Could someone kindly explain to the ignorant amongst us what a MAC code is?
Seems to be something you need when transferring, but why can't you just sign up with someone else and get their equipment and feed through your phone line?
Thanks JHMP
Thanks, Sweeperdog, for explaining that.
I actually have two phone lines, so could I move immediately to set up a new broadband service on the other line, without needing a MAC code?
I originally had a second line installed when I first had dial up, Is it right that with broadband, you can have a phone and internet on at the same time? (is BT broadband OK, folks?)
Perhaps I could get rid of the phone line with the Orange cnnection on it entirely, thus saving money on the rental? - and never needing to get a MAC code out of them?
Anyone, please alert me to the flaw in my argument / plan of action above
popped in to see if things have changed at Orange and by the looks of it i would say not.
Three months since i left Orange and not one single down time with bethere
just goes to show that its Orange at fault , not your line , not BT ,not your pc
my blood pressure is now much lower as well
if your still waiting for Orange to get it right trust me they won't all they want is your money nothing else,
one little tip if you do leave and get your MAC code , keep a eye on your bank account Orange took two months of payments before i spotted it
more phones calls later i got my money back but it would seem one department can't speak to another even when you leave.
Best way is to go for option 4 rather than option 5 for tech support. You will still be sent back and forth thru about 4 depts and it will take about 25 mins to get to the point where you will be told you will get a MAC code, but it's a UK call centre and not India
First time I didn't know it was option 4 and spoke to india. They told me my MAC code was underneath my livebox! Only if it was that simple
I know something else basically asked this but I'd like to clarify something about the necessity of getting a MAC.
Do you need one even if you've cancelled your contract? Will my line stay tied to Orange after the contract expires, requiring a MAC before I can reactivate the BT line with another provider?
I had to bang my head against a wall with the most ignorant customer service rep (I suspect a salesman) to get him to agree to cancel my contract and dread the thought of yet another pointless conversation!

The cheaper and better option is to request a MAC so you can change providers without minimum downtime and most ISP's migrate you in free with a MAC, you do not get a MAC if you cancel but you will have at least 3 weeks downtime and most ISP's charge to reactivate your line.
They have to give you a MAC within 5 working days wether in a contract or not.

After a lot of fussing and fighting with Orange, they sent me this in email form.
We regret for the inconvenience cause to you.
We will be able to provide your MAC code and cancel you account, however
we will be unable to waive off the cancellation fee. You can contact the
technical support on 0870 010 2462 options 1, 5, 4, 1 and if possible
they will be able to help you with the same.
If you still wish for a MAC code follow the link below for help:
