I've been with Orange scince it was freeserve and got a call a few weeks ago from them explaining that i had been on the wrong package and should have been on the 8mb service. They said they'd upgrade me free of charge and send me a livebox. I specificly asked them if there was a catch or contract extension and was assured that there wouldnt be so i thought i'd give it i go. I was planning on requesting a MAC code but thought i'd leave it a few weeks to see if this 8mb connection was any better.
As you can see there has been absolutly no speed increase at all. The only noticable difference is that i'm getting regular disconnections now so i decided to call them up and request a MAC code.
Placed the call and was put through to an indian fellow who said he could send me a MAC code but i'd be hit with a £220 fee for my remaining contract which expires 24/04/08!! I explained my situation and he said that a 12 month contract goes with any upgrade and asked if i still wanted the MAC code knowing i would have to pay. I said yes with no intention of paying any bill that came through after i'd used the code.
I was then told to hold while i was transfered to somebody who could give me a MAC code and shortly after, found myself talking to somebody from the english call center! Again i explained the situation and the guy was very helpful and understanding. He explained that he wasnt autherised to cancel contracts but put me on hold while he spoke with his supervisor.
A few minutes later he came back and told me that the contract was being cancelled with no charge and i would be getting my MAC code within 5 days!
Turns out there are helpful people working at Orange after all
you are one of the lucky ones...It took me a good few weeks a complaint to ISPA and then to OFcom before they would give me mine and they still want 77.50 of me.

Orange Tech support do not know what they are doing...My advice get out while you can.
Same with me.I just got off the phone.They say I would have to incur the charge.I said yes and they put me thru to a lady.She did not say anymore about the fee.I do not know if they have waived it.I hope so.
But as precaution, I have cancelled their DD immediately.
