And you are complaining and flaming? I'm paying for the same service as you are and I get this

Noise margin (dB) : 30.2
Attenuation (dB) : 22.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 6944

oh wow that is disgusting! have you complained?
we are in 2007 the information age but yet Orange seem to think we are back to 2001 broadband speed when people were happy with anything above 56k - orange have no idea how to be a successful ISP they really dont
We complained to Help India, and Help India gave us 1 month free, and made the call ABSOLUTELY free! Yet they still lied and said my lines was on 8mb.
Elhana can you tell me anything about these results from my router?

Ah 608. Your line should be able to get much higher speeds, probably roughly 5 - 5.5meg. Right now it's locked to 1/2 meg for some reason. I don't really know anything about why this happens or how exactly get's fixed.

This above is what im getting. Rediculous! I have been with Orange for 6 months now started off good was gettin 8 meg...then I asked why I was not getting the phone service...Ok Mr windle we'll give you the phone service. Suddenly the speed was reduced to 2 meg with the occasional dropouts. It had been like that for about 4 months... Until one day it just stopped working altogether. So I rang Orange to let them know about the dropout and loss of service, they told me to wait 24hrs. 24hrs later I rang them to get an update only for them to do some whizzy thingy and suprise its up and running but the dropouts were more often and more severe
So I rang them again this time was told to wait 48hrs. at this point the tech support who are not exactly tech minded, asked me to do a reset this time the connection went out. So after 2 months of constantly ringing up to find out what was happening still no further forward. They then told me that I would get a call back within 48hrs...so I told them that as long as they dont phone me whilst Im away thw following week. Anyways I got back after spending hours on a delayed flight to find that my Broadband was on but running extremely slow. So I checked the Above and to my horror they have reduced the line speed even further to 1meg...totally unacceptable. S I rang them up spoke to tech support in some country or other to find out they would not help me as they had attempted to contact me whilst I was away on holiday and they had closed the xase. So thery told me to ring through to CS who said they would not help me and I would have to contact BT...suprise suprise I only used to work for BT and I know BT will not touch another companies customers directly we have to go throught to our own CS. Anyways told them this but they wwere insistant that I do this asked for the complaints department as I want to request my MAC code only to be told that they are not open and that CS will not honour the get out free card...they wanmt me to pay them £166 to leave.
If you guys have any Ideas what I can do from here please let me know
Thanks

Ok you're on a relatively long line, capped at 1 meg. The margin shows reasonable room for improvement upto about 2-3 meg so your line stats don't sound too dissimilar from when you were on Max.
Getting the speed raised will be the tricky part as there isn't any direct process for doing it. You'll just need to complain about it and see what can be done.

as i paying customer i shouldnt have to Complain to get anything done!
my fear is that if i call up now and ask help-india to increase my speed they'll probably missunderstand me and knock me offline again, i am actually scared to call them again and risk jepordising what internet access i do have. - this isnt what a customer should feel like but i just do not in the slightest trust Orange.
...can you blame me!?

My friend that lives just around the corner and we have the same router on the same Orange Broadband service.
Router reports:- Mine, His
Noise 6db, 11db
Attenuation 22db, 28db
Based on these results, who do you think has the best connection and why and what are the likely connection speeds?
Can't say anything specific about the speeds as you need a point of reference to give estimates, but both of you should be on pretty high speeds. The router's reported connection speeds, up and down would help further.
In general from the stats...
Your line has a lower attenuation suggesting it's slightly shorter and providing you a stronger signal than your friend's.
Noise is where there needs to be a point of reference because of how the system works, I can give some possibilities though.
You're both on LLU and your friend's conneciton has been capped somewhat reducing the maximum speed and therefore increasing their noise margin.
You're both on ADSL Max and your friend's connection is slightly unstable so the system has increased the target noise margin to compensate, reducing speed.
Hard to say for sure but I suspect because of the low attenuation and relatively low margin's that you're both on a higher speed than 2 meg. Can't tell if it's Max or LLU from those stats.
As far as who's got the better connection I'd presume you have but thats no guarantee.
