I'm on 56k dial up at work and today it's been a pain in the behind, i kept getting disconnected and now when it get to the confirming user name and password i get the message "the remote computer did'nt respond how it was meant to"
So i can't use the web now, any idea what could be wrong? i'm in leeds by the way anyone else having the same probs?
I know they are'nt the same, everything was working fine untill around 4pm yesterday, my password and user name are set to stay logged like they have been for years.
It just stopped working for some reason? maybe the Orange were having probs yesterday? it might be ok when i get to work in a bit?

I'm having exactly the same problem on my broadband. It started around 6pm yesterday. I have the ADSL signal to the router but keep getting an authentication failure notification.
Then try this: remove @fs from user name and replace with @bb2.freeserve.co.uk
The fs gateway is a `virtual gateway` just putting you on the `actual gateway` which has the least traffic on it at a particular time.
The actual gateways being - BB,BB1,BB2,BB3,BB4

Thank god for my NTL BB at home
I lost my dial-up connections yesterday afternoon using the usual 0808 numbers but fortunately, I have two numbers prefixed 161642 etc. which gave me 'Anytime' connection. Today things seem back to normal. Mind you I did phone their TS helpline last night, at 50p/min but was told to wait for so many working hours for things to restore themselves, which they did.
