Fair enough their is a "stabalising perioud" of 10 days but this is taking the mick! It doesnt matter how many times i reconnect, everytime it connects between 3.5 - 5mb, but still only get that same 30k download.
Speed test shows following results:
Date 29/04/07 23:07:27
Speed Down 237.53 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )
Speed Up 359.25 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )
Port 8095
Server speedtest1.adslguide.org.uk
Well it could be the 10 day training period, jsut give it a few days, thats all Orange will say if you call them, they wont even think about doing anything until the 10 days is up.
It's more likely to be the profile as you're on ADSL Max.
Go to http://speedtester.BT.com/ and run the test. You'll probably find it says your IP Profile is very low. 56k I'd guess.
If your connection stats stay as you posted then the profile should go up in 3 days. It's best not to turn off the livebox except for maybe once a day during the 10 days, leave it off for a good 15 minutes if you do. That way it gives the system a chance to resync and hopefully won't treat it as a proper disconnection and keep the profile low.
yeah but I just wondered if that would explain the fact that im connected at such high speeds but cant download at them?
seems like their is a cap. I have run the speed test with the following results:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 250 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4416 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 176 kbps
Just leave your router on overnight for as long as you can during the 10 day training period and it will sort itself out, if your sync stays like that for 3 days, it will change your profile to that and you should get those speeds, unfortunatley you just need to be patient.
yeah nice one. what if i disconnect? will it re-set the sync time back to 0?
but if i leave it as it is, ill get a profile of 4mbps, then I can reconnect and disconnect as much as I like till i reconnect at 5-6mbps and then leave it on for another 3 days and it will up my profile once more?
is this correct
--- also how do I know when my profile has been upped?
ahh... see I was thinking that you had to disconnect and reconnect after 3 days to get the new speed profile.
Thanks, you've been more helpful than their customer service department. On that note, when I rang them to speak about my account, they asked me for my characters 4 and 6 of my password, to my astonishment the exact words of the indian gentleman:
"I am sorry the password you give me is incorrect, the password is xxxxx and you give me the letters x and x, which are wrong?"
Best bit of all is that the account is in my girlfriends name and he was calling me Miss Smith? I really wish I recorded the phone call.
I personally think the fact they have access to our passwords is a security risk? Id be fine with them having maybe character 4 and 6 but not the whole thing?
Ive never come accross an organisation where passwords are available to employees?
Using the livebox disconnect/connect button in the config simply logs you in and out, it doesn't resync the line as far as I know. As mentioned the profile should change after 3 days providing it's stable, it shouldn't need to resync for that the system simply adapts the rate the date can be transferred over the connection.
If you want/need to turn the box off then do so just once a day for at least 15 minutes, longer it's off the less it should look like a connection issue. Otherwise I'd say just leave it on and don't mess with it for now. It's not limited so if the line can handle greater speeds then providing it stays stable then it'll go up by itself. You can turn it off every few days to make it resync if you like but it's probably best to try and do that when it's quiet, not during peak times.
As for the password stuff, yeah they have access to it, you'd be surprised how often people forget them or just misspell them. It's not like if they're not connected you can just reset it and email out a new password, you'd have to tell them it over the phone. It's been like this since, well forever and I've never heard of it being abused at all.
Though sometimes you get to laugh at the odd password and those who use "password".
Well I believe the profile should vary without the need of a resync although it may help.
It may be worth checking something first though.
Go into your livebox pages, Services > Internet Connection. How long does it show the connection being established for? If it says 3 days or more and you're out of the 10 day period then it could be a fault. Then I'd reboot the box and see what it says following a speedtest to check the profile.
If it's under Three days then either it's getting disconnected at some points you're not around or it's not been 3 days yet.
