Just got off the phone to Orange after losing more hair they tell me that they have to do a line test and have given me th 7 th fault escalation no !! not bad ehh !!
speed here tonight - used to be a respectable 1mb/s line from wanadoo/freeserve - 512k max.
due to my distance from the exchange the most my 8mb account can expect is a max of 2mb. quite frankly, i've never even seen 1mb - which i used to get with Wanadoo/freeserve.
on the torrent downloads (and the most popular torrents) used to get about 50 to 60k per second average. now , i barely hit above 30k/s - avearge is about 8 to 10k/s
and we're talking about torrents with thousands of seeders.
i go into the office (8 meg, different provider) , load up the same popular torrent - 100k/s , sometimes bursting to 300k/s...
i think they're secretly capping usage without telling us.
throttling "unlimited" users in other words.
i had been with freeserve since it started - and wanadoo had an admirable "hands off" approach to us freeserve oldies. we stayed loyal. now, for the first time since 1998, i'm seriously thinking of moving to somebody else. right now, tonight, i'm on 512k - something i had with freeserve when ADSL was first announced. i KNOW my max is a 2 meg line. and i hit 1 to 1.5 meg regularly with freeserve/wanadoo. since Orange took over i have really seen the decline in service and reliability - and because i work from home, thats just not good enough.
