We have not been able to send emails for almost Three weeks! At first Orange said there was no problem, then they admitted to updating pop3 servers (although I though those were for receipt not sending!) and finally they said it must be our AVG free anti-virus software. If AVG is turned off we still can't send email and even if it is unstalled - still no joy! Today they have told us it will be fixed within 24 hours but can't tell us what the problem is - they seem very confident but I have to say I can't share in their belief it will be all right tomorrow!!
Orange have suggested to us that we use webmail but as the account is in my husband's name it means that everything I send from there comes from him!
As an aside because of other problems with internet connections we have had the last Three months free - which would be great if everything worked!
So ... please can someone tell me which internet provider we should be with?
Ive had the same problem for a week now. I did follow the advice to change the server names back to no avail. So I changed back to the new server names and my mail started being sent.
I got no response from Orange, and have sent a complaint to Ofcom. I will also be complaining direct to Orange and calling them on the number suggested re getting some form of compensation back, as my service has been poor if not apalling for ages now. And their tel support is a waste of time.
I am a experienced It engineer & this level of support if given at anywhere Ive worked would result in chaos.
Here we go again!!!!!!!!! Usually problem!!!!!!! I can't wait to to switch to Waitrose. I am still waiting to be switched over.
This Orange email problem is far, far beyond a joke now. I think some form of action should be taken against Orange. They refuse to compensate people. They are THIEVES!!!!!!!!!!! This problem has been going on for too long. They are not in the slightest interested in sorting it as long as we are stupid enough to stay with them and they are getting their money from us.
I don't think there are any worse companies than British Gas and Orange.
They have made me very angry with their casual attitude.
Isn't there anything that can be done to stop them?
Mass mail them? I dont know, Ive just about had enough of it. But at the moment cant afford to offline for a month if i switched ISP
If you change to Waitrose, you don't have to be offline. If you use the MAC code Orange have to give you by law, you can transfer over without a break and if you are already on Broadband, they will give you 3 months free subscription. It only takes approximately 7 days to transfer with them.
I will have to wait for a few weeks until I can change as I cant afford anymore downtime. I need my connection at least until end of may and then I can change.

Just ask for a MAC code they have to give it to you if your line is LLUed quiete a few ISP's take them now HERE the most downtime you will have is about 30 mins tops, after my experience with Orange i would never go with an ISP with a 12 month contract again theres plenty now with 1 month contracts so if your not satisfied with them you can just move on.
Regards

I've had the same problems as everyone else, so with my bramley apple hat on, I called them.
Their whole email system is down, even to the point that I can't use my own outgoing email server.
We have 2 Macs on OS X 10.4.9 (Apple Mail) and a PC on Windows XP SP 2 (Mozilla Thunderbird). I can send email out from my PowerBook when out and about.
Right, I'm off to the local free internet café then! http://www.wi-here.com has a directory of free internet access points, and you'll need a server you can access (I have my own, which was provided as part of a web hosting package).
Orange say everything will be OK in 24-48 hours. I'll believe it when I see it!
Shhh! Don't tell anyone but the email servers are working again. I can send again however this may change, still have problem with FTP though with LiveBox
Hi all…...looking at the forum it seems I’m far from alone in having issues with Orange.
I too am having intermittent problems with sending emails using Outlook. This problem has been happening now for over 2 months, on both my hardwired PC and my wirelessly connected lap-top. Also, at the same time I found I couldn’t access the MySite FTP server, which meant that I couldn’t update my website, and haven’t done since early Feb this year !!
It was all working fine until they upgraded their servers. My download speeds went from 2 mg to around 6 mg (which would have been fine under normal circumstances), but uploading became pitiful.
I’ve continually contacted Orange Help (and have even spoken their ‘special off-shore division’ (ha ha) – obviously set-up specifically to deal direct with UK issues !!)
They keep sending me suggestions from their help section, which unsurprisingly have no effect what-so-ever !!!! I have repeatedly told them that the suggestions DO NOT WORK and at one point actually had an email admitting they had issues with older IP addresses regarding the FTP server, but as yet no admittance to say that their SMTP server obviously has serious issues with capacity.
As I’m sure you’ve all realised, you can probably send emails in the dead of night or first thing in the morning with no problem. At all other times after a few attempts Outlook will send the emails eventually, assuming your Outlook is set to send/receive every few minutes or so and keeps trying the server – but what kind of a service is that. Are we to sit and wait until our emails finally get sent !?!?!?

Is this in general, or just to the Orange webspace?
(mind you, I can't even send on my own mailserver - smtp.spicedapple.com through my Orange connection, although I'm quite heppy sitting here at my local free internet café!)
Could it be a problem with the Network Address Translation on the Livebox itself, I wonder... I'm going to reset my Livebox when I get back home and see what happens.

I wouldn't bother mate, all it will do is reset your username and password, and your admin-login.
FTP to Freeserve's webspace is the problem, as can be seen in a previous post. LiveBox Firewall on or in Advanced mode no FTP data transfer LiveBox Firewall off everything works.
I have not been able to send e-mails all weekend using Outlook and still cannot send, although does not seem to be a problem using Webmail.
I have had enough of this I am asking for my MAC code and off. Can any one recomend a RELIABLE IPS it does not have to be the fastest in the world I just want it to work when I want it to.
