I'm freeeeeeee!
The migration to Adsl24 happened today.
For those that are interested:-
I turned my router off about 8am this morning (Mark 1 Netgear DG834G) and when I came back home nad plugged it in about 2:30PM it synced straight away at just over 6000K downstream with 6dB noise margin and 46dB Attenuation and the full 448K up.
So I quickly changed the login details to ADSL24 and hey presto was up and running with no problems. Changed Outlook to the Adsl24 account, again worked without incident.
I fired up my bit torrent box and allowed it to continue downloading the torrent it was doing when I shut it down which was crawling along at between 22-28k average and it lept straight up to over 80k/sec and stayed there until it finished. I know I only had a 1Mbs line before but was surprised at that. Everything seems a lot quicker.
I left it to it for a few hours and came back around 8PM and checked the router log to find it had dropped the connection about 1/2 hour previously and resynced down to 5344K with only 1-2dB noise margin but has stayed connected since then. So I'll keep an eye on the log and see how the training goes.
I did hear that the Mark1 and 2 DG834G are one of the best routers for Max so hopefully all will go well.
DSLZone's speed test reports 4567Kbps throughput so no nasty stuck Bras profiles either and considering my exchange is flagged as red on virtual paths it ain't bad!!
So far I would say anyone wanting to move from Oange to go with one of the Entanet partners.
Will post once more after the training period has completed.
My broadband is with Orange on their unlimited package. I received a letter a two months ago stating my broadband usage was 60gb, 20gb over their 40gb fair use policy.
I have recently received a second letter stating my usage for the last two months has averaged 45gb per month and my broadband account will be closed on the 4th of May.
They stated that I need a MAC code to change supplier. I have just phoned them and they have said I will be charged £145 on the 4th of May for the cancellation of my contract.
I am unsure if the charge is for the MAC code or for the cancellation?
That charge would be for the remaining contract but you shouldn't actually be charged for it. Did you mention the letters when you phoned?
As it's a termination of the account for their side it means they can't claim you must pay the remainder, least thats how it goes normally. Just mention the word "superuser" to them and they ought to get the message.
How can Orange enforce a limit that is NOT stated in their T&C's or FUP. How can customers stay under a limit that they are not aware of or Orange do no not make known?
Superuser's just a term they picked for high usage customers who they've deceided to terminate the contract on. There's also Overusers who use more than their account's limit but they're less common to hear about with the current packages.
There's a bunch of ISP's who use this tactic. They do it because they can and the legal validity of FUP/AUP's and especially vague ones hasn't been tested in court. I'd expect them to try and settle if it ever got that far as very few people would take things that far.
I know OFCOM are looking into the misuse of 'unlimited'.
Orange should provide a link in the member centre to keep track of your usage logged by Orange. Quite a few ISP's now do this.
Orange obviously work t o a limit on their 'unlimited' package so why don't they state this in the FUP and inform Orange customers. Still wouldn't be happy that I signed upto an 'unlimited' package but at least customers would know there is a limit and what it is.
Do overusers not receive a warning letter, I assume this is by post and not email.

Usually, generally the same as a Superuser's letter except "terminate your account with 30 days notice" is usually changed to "change you to a more suitable package with 30 days notice". May have changed since I last read about them though.
I assume yo get a letter about your usage, perhaps a second warning and then notification your account is being closed.
if your account is closed can you move ISP's straightaway or have to wait 10 days for the line to clear?
What package can they move you to if on 'unlimited'
Why don't Orange publicly state they have a limit and what it is? Would be helpful for all.
AFAIK it's one warning, then whatever measures they have stated.
The 30 days notice usually gives time to request a MAC and migration to a new ISP. If you wait out the time the account is closed and the line ceased, 10 days removal time for line clearance.
If on unlimited you only get superusers, overusers are for accounts with lower limits you could be upgraded from.

Why don't Orange play fair and declare there is a limit and what it is in the FUP?
Probably because not so many would sign up and get locked in their 12 month contracts Orange know "Free" and "Unlimited" will get people to sign up unfortunately realising too late what a rip off it is.

Whatever the limit is they seem to forgotten it. I,ve spent the last 2 months caning the life out of downloading (approx 150Gb) and the swines haven't even written to me to express their concern about my usage.
LOL Premier thats some downloading you've done. I believe they monitor activity over a period of 3 months, so you've racked up 150 gb in two months if u was to cool off the downloading this month, they might let it slide.
So I'm going to think your gonna have to do some more unadulterated downloading this month to be flagged as someone breaking their FUP.
Well the way I heard it was that it was calculated as an average over the course of Three months. In that case premiercuts will already be flagged.
However it's been pretty random as to when it was examined in the past, though seems more and more like it's standard practice over the last 10 months or so.
I think before it was like cutting your lawn, they'd mow it and when it grew back mow it again, took some time for it to grow back to a noticable level though. These days as speeds are generally faster for more people, it "grows" back quicker so needs to be constantly mow'd.
