Just thought i'd add to this thread as clearly Orange are taking no notice whatsoever of this issue.
I called them and gave them another opportunity to waste my money - has anyone else noticed how Orange support insist on repeating everything you say before answering - this wastes time and money guys!!! I guess their underpaid and probably exploited call centre operatives (based in India??) are paid based on how long they can keep people connected without solving the problem thus forcing them to make yet another worthless and pointless call. Call was a waste of tem because the call centre didn't understand the question and there was nobody else in tech support that could answer this question apparently.
I then tried the post a support questin option. It took hem two daysto reply then only gave me a reply from their online help system - which was of course an answer to a completely different problem to the one I asked. I pointed out that Vista was not an OS option in their drop down box, so they decided to answer a question about Vista. Since Iasked a very direct questin about connecting to the smtp.orangehome.co.uk server I thought that very strange indeed: but not surprising; perhaps they just wanted me to call the support line again!
I htink the only way to get Orange to take any notice at all would be to send the company an invoice for each month's charges on the basis that they are not providing the service paid for. if everyone did this, then I suspect the service would be sorted quite fast. They take our money and give only half in return (ie the POP bit).
Bizarrely, I changed my smtp again to freeserve.com and it now works fine (at leats until it doesn't...) and Oragne should be ashamed of the incredibly poor service they provide.
No wonder there's no real telephone number to talk to a properly qualified tech support person with the right answers...!
One more thing - if you listen to the status message, it's dated 25 March and it says there's no problems. Sums it up well I think
I've also been having trouble with emails just sitting in my Outbox and only going at random times, that is absolutely no use to me whatsoever. This coupled with the fact that I have been unable to access my webspce for about six months, and following the'line upgrade' to 8meg, I get 3meg here, I also get frequent disconnections.
I have been steadily rearranging my affairs and email references and shall shortly be requesting my MAC code to dump this company. The thing that amnazes me is they are still advertising on TV when they obviously can't even cope with the customers they already have, or is this to replace us when we leave!
I've had this problem as well for a few weeks now and every time got the usual re-create your mail account or re install OE. One advisor when pushed admitted there was a problem but offered no advice except to keep trying.
It needs everybody to stop paying them but I fear then they will just deactivate the account?
Not sure if this is the same problem but I sent some e-mails a few days ago and have just found out that they never actually arrived. I have just sent myself one about 15 minutes ago (from outlook to my hotmail address) and it still hasn't arrived. I suspect this is due to Orange forcing me to use their stmp server rather than the perfectly good one i was using before. So now i wonder how many others have gotten lost? I don't get an error message, it says it's sent but then it dissapears into the ether. What exactly is wrong with letting me use my own isp's stmp?
I have now not been able to send e mails to friends or myself (as a test) that has hotmail or msn.com addresses using outlook or their web server using either my fsnet.co or fsmail address for over 2 weeks so i just use my msn and a googlemail address i got myself, stil waiting for BE to enable my exchange april/may time then im off.
I had the usual problem yesterday and have again today, not being able to send emails via wanadoo or orangehome.
I also have the problem that when I check my webmail, some emails are not being forwarded to my email programme. They are on my allowed list and are not spam. I have to forward them from webmail to Outlook and then I receive them ok.
I am just waiting for Waitrose to connect me which takes about seven days so hopefully by this Saturday I will have left Orange.
Something has to be done about Orange, they can't go on ignoring the problem and hope it will go away.
They are a bunch of thieves. They are quite happy to take our money each month but refuse to sort the problem. I asked them for either compensation or a reduction in my monthly bill but they say they are not able to do that.
I think they have run out of excuses because I am now getting the same replies from them.
I have just sent a complaint to Watchdog about Orange.
Perhaps if everyone complains to Watchdog something WILL be done.
I'm having the same problems as many others, emails staying in the outbox for ages, emails I thought had been sent not arriving. Connection drops every time I read or send an email.
As my IT skills are virually nil, I'm reluctant to change my ISP if it can be avoided. I was told by Orange the problem would be sorted out within a month. The month ends on 20th April.
I wrote requesting a refund of the fee I paid to the computer engineer before Orange admitted the problem was theirs. They said they couldn't do this but as a goodwill gesture would not charge for May. As I had already had April without a charge I haven't done too badly but I do hope the problem is resolved soon!
Please can anyone help? I am having an intermittant problem sending emails using Outlook. The error message I get is:The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server. (Account********SMTPserver:smtp.freeserve.co.uk, error number Ox800cc0f) This problem has been happening for about 2 weeks now. It was working fine until they upgraded the speed to 8mgbs.I have contacted Orange but all they keep doing is sending me suggestions from their help, such as I may have a virus that has hijacked my email accounts, therefore I should delete them and then create new ones etc.
These suggestions do not work!!!! I have repeatedly told them that the suggestions DO NOT WORK anfd that it must be to do with their server.
My brother is a computer expert and he says that the problem is with Orange. He thinks that the server becomes congested. He has done tests and can't find anything wrong with my computer.
Some 3 weeks have lapsed since the problem arose of intermittent sending of emails.
I have contacted Wanadoo some 10 times and every time I am asked the same questions again & again. They suggested that the Outlook express is faulty which I know is not, they suggested that the .dbx files were corrupt, I informed them that they were talking **** as the same problem occurs when using Microsoft Express which uses .pst files, they then suggested that the PC is faulty, my reply I am using a wireless connections and maybe the virus has jumped from my PC to 3 remote laptops. I can go on and on as regards to their suggestions but they are all used to get one off the line.
At the end on every conversation with my BP on the boil they finally admit that it’s a Orange / Wanadoo problem which will be rectified in a week. Its like watching Coronation Street so far the problem still persists. I have been with the company for some 10 years and am reluctant to switch as my business is suffering, but switch I must if this carries on after the end of this month. Can anyone recommend another good ISP?

Hi,
The problem of e-mailing is definately one that can be laid at Orange's door. Sending via my Orange e-mail works, but only very sporadically, sometimes not at all for days on end.
Some people, including the Orange helpline, have suggested changing the SMTP server from "smtp.freeserve.co.uk" to "smtp.orangehome.co.uk" (or even "smtp.fsnet.co.uk", or "smtp.wanadoo.co.uk"). This is a waste of time and affort. If you feed these into NSLOOKUP you will find they all point to the same set of 7 servers.
The problem is obviously that these get overloaded at peak times.
My wife has an e-mail account with the ISP hosting my domain-name. She got so fed up that she told everyone to use that e-mail address instead of the one from Orange. I might well do the same, especially as I can still receive e-mail sent to my Orange account without problems, it is SENDING e-mails from it that is pot-luck.
Luckily my domain hosting ISP has an alternate port to port 25 for its SMTP server. Before I found that out I couldn't get Outlook Express to connect to that SMTP server because Orange blocks port 25 from passing through to the other ISP. They say it's to previent spamming. So I set the port on her account to the alternate one and now she has a perfect e-mail service - much better than the rubbish I pay Orange considerably more for.
I am seriously considering telling Orange where to stick their non-service, with its useless supportline and switch to Waitrose. At least the Orange they sell in their fruit section does what it says on the tin.
Good luck to all
