Please can anyone help? I am having an intermittant problem sending emails using Outlook. The error message I get is:The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server. (Account********SMTPserver:smtp.freeserve.co.uk, error number Ox800cc0f) This problem has been happening for about 2 weeks now. It was working fine until they upgraded the speed to 8mgbs.I have contacted Orange but all they keep doing is sending me suggestions from their help, such as I may have a virus that has hijacked my email accounts, therefore I should delete them and then create new ones etc.
These suggestions do not work!!!! I have repeatedly told them that the suggestions DO NOT WORK anfd that it must be to do with their server.
My brother is a computer expert and he says that the problem is with Orange. He thinks that the server becomes congested. He has done tests and can't find anything wrong with my computer.
I could not RECEIVE emails this morning!!! Contacted Orange AGAIN!!!!! They said that they noticed I was still using pop.wanadoo and smtp.freeserve. and that I should change both to Orangehome. I did this and it still did not work. I added another account using wanadoo and freeserve and that worked.
I told Orange what I had done and that it worked. I told them that I was paying for a service that I was not getting and I would inform OFCOM.
Surprise, surprise, I got a reply saying that there WAS a problem that they knew about a few weeks ago and were doing tests some randomly and because the problem was intermittent they could not resolve it yet.
SO WHY DIDN'T THEY ADMIT THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE INSTEAD OF FOBBING ME OFF WITH SUGGESTIONS FROM THEIR "HELP" PAGES?
You have hit the nail right on the head there.
If they said they had a problem and posted it on some sort of "on-going problems page" that we could easily find, then at least WE wouldn't have to waste all our time trying to solve the problem at our end.
I'm having real trouble sending emails. I use a livebox and a MAC system 10.4.9.
My email is via my website (not Orange) and I can recieve but not send, its saying the server does not understand the request. A friend suspects its something to do with the ports? This is killing me.
HELP?

If your site is set to use port 25 for outgoing emails (default) then thats the problem, whilst on Orange port 25 traffic not to Orange is blocked as an anti-spam measure. Often the returned error message will mention setting the server to Orange's. There's 2 options. Set Orange's smtp server for sending emails or access your mail server on a different port if possible.
tbh you shouldn't use outlook... considering it has thousands of exploits whereby someone can hack directly into your pc regardless of firewalls when you are running outlook without receiving any emails... microsoft havnt released any patches for it that i know of :/
If it's any consolation, you're not alone. I have had the same problem since the dreaded "upgrade". It is intermittent. And sometime switching between the various servers helps, but not always.
More generally, I have taken to including in emails to the helpdesk comments like "please do not bother giving me the bland references to kb ..... I have read those. "
I have also generated some response by a long letter to customer services. But I am inclined to the view that they do have serious network problems - witness also the reported drop offs in download speed, where at one point on a 4.6Mb line I was seeing download at 172kb (no I didn't miss a zero in 172, and I am not confusing B and b!).
I suspect the only way out of this is exactly that - out to another ISP!
For a short time.
I thought I was the only person with this problem.
I normally muddle through and sort stuff out myself.
After setting my Livebox up, I started having the "emails not sent" problem.
As everybody seems to have done, I uninstalled stuff, re-installed stuff,
pulled out handfulls of hair but never thought (After years of great service) that it was a Freeserve / Wanadoo / Orangehome problem.
This sets my mind at rest that MY computer doesn't have problems.
Hopefully it will be sorted soon.
In the meantime, I'm logging on to Orange Webmail.
I've transferred all my addresses etc. across and I'm sending stuff from there. It has (touchwood) worked perfectly for about 2 weeks. Occasionally, I forget and click on Outlook Express and It works but only ever ONCE then fails again.
I too am being driven to distraction by not being able to send mails - at all!!! Originally it was something with a picture attached! but the last couple of weeks its anything at all....... This has been happening on and off for the last month or so.
Today is another off day, although I have received the usual bundle of messages, I have not been able to reply to any of them and can last for hours, anything up to 5 or 6 hours! Despite this, I am usually still connected to the Web and receiving mail.
Two colleagueswho are pc experts have had a thorough look at it and can't find what's wrong. One of whom whose business it is, had to be paid!!! The daft thing to me is that I still receive incoming mail, including all sorts of pics/slideshows/videos. But as soon as I think ''Oh, I could send that mail now'', it switches off again.
For someone who is Admin Officer for a local theatre this is a nightmare, as I get so many enquiries and have information to pass on or enquiries that need to be dealt with.
My partner, who works off a wireless connection from my pc is never affected!
This is the message: which I have checked with Orange (Server) error codes, and still can't get anywhere.
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Server: 'smtp.orangehome.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F.
What is the answer? Or are Orange just trying to lose business by forcing us/me to use another ISP!
I have just tried to reply to an email from a cousin in Australia. I have been trying for most of the day but I cannot send it. I also tried sending yet ANOTHER email complaining to Orange with a suggestion that unless they get this long standing problem sorted soon, they should REDUCE the cost!! but this would also not send.
They said last time that the problem was intermittent therefore was hard to solve. By this they mean that my son who has recently bought a laptop and has set up his own email account as Orangehome, CAN send emails, but mine as freeserve/wanadoo and another account as Orangehome, CANNOT send emails.
The problem with this company is that they have got too big and cannot handle it.
How much longer can this company get away with the poor service? I suppose as long as we are mug enough to stay with them!!!!!!!!!!
I have been having a problem sending e-mails for so time now. Sometimes they go first time sometimes they don't. Everything else is fine I can receive e-mails and use the internet no problems at all. I also have web-mail which never fails. All my settings are ok (if they weren't my e-mails would never go) I sometimes change my server name between Wanadoo and Orangehome and that seems to help at times but not always. From the error message I get it would seem there is a fault at the server it usually says "server not repsonding" or "cannot connect to server".
