My Orange Broadband connection was cancelled last week (phew) and will close today (no internet access from today). I have already signed up with Zen Broadband but they stated that it may take 10 days for Orange to disable the line with BT and then a further 5 days for Zen to connect me up to their package.
I was just wondering whether I can use dialup for the 15 days (or more as Orange are bound to cock something up with disabling the line). If so, how does the dialup effect my broadband change over? For example, say I got dialup access today, would I then need to cancel this dialup access for me to get Zen Broadband? If so, when would I need to cancel to get broadband from Zen?
Or does dialup work as a separate means to broadband. For example, can I have dialup as well as broadband at the same time using the same telephone line? Obviously, dialup would be payg for the next 15 days so I can access the internet whilst I wait for Zen Broadband to come alive.
Dialup works over the voice line, broadband is a completely seperate frequency on the line so the two shouldn't cause problems so long as it's all filtered right if trying to use both at once.
Depends who you get the dialup from. There's 2 main types. Pay as you go where you just pay for the call itself, good for infrequent use but the charges can quickly add up if you're a heavy user. 2nd type is like Orange's anytime, you pay a monthly fee for free dialup access, usually on a monthly basis. Have a look around before you decide, although for dialup most providers that still do it offer very similar packages.
