About 6 weeks ago we upgraded our 1 meg wanadoo broadband line to a 2Meg Orange service.
On the day of the upgrade our internet connection died.
After spending in excess of 20 hours talking to people reading from cue cards on the tech support line and being unable to cancel our service unless the tech support people admit they cant fix it we seem to be stuck in a loop.
while tech support have proved to be no more than a bunch of oxygen thieves, i have made some progress investigation the problem myself.
I have tried a Belkin wireless router which did make the connection but would not allow me to access encrypted sites such as hotmail or internet banking. Using the same router and laptop but changing the service provider to Virgin at my sons house worked fine. after more calls to the ignorant tech support people to find out what is different about their signal(possibly encryption protocols) to virgins we eventually gave up with the other router and reinstallaed the livebox.
so the live box is up and running again and will allow me to access the encrypted sites using my wireless capable laptop. However, the PC with the inventel adapter will not log on. it attempts to log on, the inventel icon goes green for a second then says something along the line of "unable to connet to access point" which is pretty much where we started on day one.
from this i can only conclude that the adapter is the item causing grief in this case as the live box does work and will allow me to log on using another computer. I have tried repairing the connection and tried re-pairing the livebox with the adapter but not had any luck getting it to connect. for the sake of re-establishing a connection i have disabled the firewalls on the pc in question and checked the wep code.
if anyone has any suggestions on how to get the adapter to talk to my livebox again i would be ecstatic to hear them !
Can be a number of things preventing the adapter from connecting.
Simple things like pairing, entering the WEP key incorrectly (best to copy it directly from the livebox pages) through to signal problems like interference.
thanks for your reply. i have always checked that it is in pairing mode before attempting the connection, and cut and pasted the WEP key in. as for interference i doubt it as nothing new has been introduced. The PC, adapter and livebox have remained in exactly the same location and worked flawlessly for 3 years prior to the Orange upgrade, then on the day of the upgrade, bang it no longer wants to speak to the PC adapter.
Could the upgrade have somehow caused something in the livebox to short and reduce the signal strength ? is it possible that the upgrade caused the MAC address that the adapter was paired with to be lost or corrupted ?
have you tried turning security off of the livebox just to see if its possible to make a connection to the livebox?? if the adapter icon goes yellow and stays there, try turning it off, then once the connection is made with the inventel adapter, turn the security back on, and it should work
