Provided you've got a WEP key of some sort fitted, I don't think there's much to worry about to be honest. I know that it's better to hide the SSID, but anybody wanting to use someone else's internet ...
I've recently signed up for, and set up a livebox for my dad with which to access the internet. I sorted out the laptop etc, and got the wireless going eventually.
