The ADSL syncs at 7168 kb/s down and 288 kb/s up and I get about 3.5Mb/s on download so not too bad.

Good catch. The default MRU/MTU of 1500 doesn't work. I set it to 1800 and everything now works OK.

I think what is happening is that the remote peer 91.104.0.1 is doing transparent proxying such as to interfere with NATing at the local end.

Presumably they are not doing it with those with a Live ...
