Got the lead through today and done all the tests again, but nothing changed. Am guessing what you have said is correct and that I have been set at a limit of 1MB which is frankly annoying.

Ihave no idea what type the cable is. All I know is that it is roughly 30-40ft long and has the small telephone connection on both ends that fits into the back of the router.
