If this story is true, then it would seem that Orange have decided to cut their losses and get out of the market for exchanges where they only resell BT Wholesale products.
From what I have read, if you are leaving Orange for a LLU provider, as Sweeperdog suggests, do not rely on Orange being informed by BT that the MAC has been used.
